PVC also known as Polyvinyl chloride is an odorless and solid plastic. This plastic is most commonly white but also colorless or amber. People started to synthesize PVC in 1835. Until 1937 PVC was produced on a complete industrial scale.

Classification and properties

- PVC has 2 forms: white powder or pellets.

- PVC is made up of vinyl chloride molecules linked together, thereby forming a polymer.

PVC is softer and more flexible by adding phthalates during production.

- PVC is not toxic, the reason it is toxic is only residual additives and monomers VC. When processing and manufacturing products, the plastic will have HCl separation so that PVC is less impact resistant.

- To enhance the impact properties of PVC, manufacturers often use: MBS, ABS, CPE, EVA at the rate of 5 - 15%.
